My very first cat café!

Kick off your shoes, throw down your bags, and come relax with me in a cat café!

[Note: I want to document my life so this post is quite LONG and picture-heavy, so grab a coffee and embrace it! EXPERIENCE the cat café with me! …Or, skim as you will~ I’ve added subtitles to help you~ ^^]

A few weeks ago we were wandering the Konkuk University area when we suddenly decided to try out a nearby cat café. I love cats, so I was excited by this spur-of-the-moment decision!

You start by entering a small hallway (closed off from the main café so the cats don’t escape!) where you change your shoes into slippers. The glass windows on both sides are covered in postits of notes written by previous patrons. This seems family common in Korea, and I’ve gotten in the habit of writing notes myself!

Okay, onto to the café itself~!

CAFÉ ENTRANCE:
In the front next to the entrance is the cashier/kitchen area. This is where the drinks are made, as well as where we paid our entrance fee! 8,000KRW got us petting rights and a single drink—which later I found out to be refillable!

The drink choices:

(You can see the postits in the background!)

I opted for an Ice Mocha and he went with an Ice Caramel Macchiato. The drinks were tasty!

(Hint: mine’s in a cat shape!)

To the left of the kitchen is a mural with all the cats’ pictures and names:

There are, however, a few rules for the cat café! Cutest rules I’ve seen yet! You can click on the image to make it bigger~

(I can say that most people, including myself, did not obey these rules…)

CAFÉ INTERIOR:
We parked ourselves in the back. We had to put our jackets and bags inside the lockers underneath the chairs, lest a cat pees on us! Here’s the view from our little corner:

Here you can see the entrance, the kitchen, and the two fish shelves—which change color!—for the cats to rest on:

(Many of the customers were couples, like the one you see here!)

If you look up, you can see little compartments for the cats!

It’s really funny when a cat goes to sleep up there

Hovercat puffball!

Moving to the right, here’s another sitting area in the café (with another couple!):

(As you can see, the cats' gathering place is in the center.)

Here’s a better view of the seating area:

Moving more to the right, you can see plenty of shelves and hiding spots for cats to get away!

And to the direct right of us was a bookshelf, containing but a handful of cat books:

(Do you see the books on the table on the right?
Some people come here to actually study!)

Putting it all together, here’s a panoramic view of the entire café from where we were sitting. Click on the image to make it bigger!

UPDATE: I fished up a video that I took of the interior! I like video clips because it brings everything to life~ :3 Watch it in HD!

OUR FIRST CAT:
Shortly after we sat down, a cat came over and pranced around between our laps and our table, probably scanning the area! Then a miracle happened. The cat curled up on my lap and fell asleep! ಥ౪ಥ LAAAA~~~ *angel’s choir* …A real cat was napping on my lap, omg! I was sooo happy~ It was so warm and soft, I didn’t dare move for the longest time.

He's napping! Isn’t it precious?!

Excuse my tummy bulge, I had just eaten some lunchies, teehee~!
Also don’t mind my less-than-glamorous outfit! Work clothes!

Totally disregarding the rules, I'm petting it while it naps, kekeke~

Its ears twitched adorably whenever something (like my wig) accidentally touched them~ Here, the cat is awake, but blinks when I pet it:

Look at those paws~! *_*

And after many tries, I finally got a shot with both of us looking!

Oh yeah~!

FEEDING THE CATS:
It turns out, you can buy snacks to feed to the cats! It was a little expensive (2,000KRW for tuna and 3,000KRW for chicken) so I decided not to. But then two high school girls (below, red varsity jacket and blue hoodie) bought snacks and sat in the center and immediately, tons of cats flocked towards them:

I watched from afar in envy… FINE! 5,000KRW for SNACKS IT IS!!

Here is the tuna package!

As soon as we bought the snacks, a bunch of cats swarmed to our area, lol! XD

The owner then told us to move to the center to feed them. Feeding the cats turned out to be less warm and fuzzy than I thought…Some of these cats are vicious fighters! This sphynx cat in particular:

Even if I was deliberately feeding another cat, he would reach over, claws out, grab my wrist, and pull it closer to him. I couldn’t resist because he dug his claws into me! I was secretly sad that he wouldn't budge from my lap because he was fighting away cats that were cuter.... >.<

On the other hand, this black cat was really cute! He would stand up on two legs to get food. Awww~

I love looking at their little round heads while they munch! Awu~~!!

Later on, we abandoned the center of the floor and approached this cat with baby pink cheeks, who was resting on the fish shelves. He was rather unenthused by our offerings:

Sniffs and nibbles some:

Meh, it’s okay:

‘No kitty, try some more!’ we insist:

The kitty gives it a second chance, but look who sneaks up!

It’s the over-aggressive Sphynx! Persistent bugger!

Wat’s going on? Why are you here, naked cat?

Eventually, we wandered back over to our original spot to feed our favorite cat. Yes, our first cat. The cat that had stayed loyal to our laps, even when all other cats were lured in by the high school girls!

Turns out, our peaceful little cat (whose name is Daeho) is quite the fighter too! Look at these claws! It looks cute now, but it sure hurt!

When a little chunk fell on the ground, Daeho didn’t hesitate to clean up. Another cat came over, and this is what happened:

Daeho eating determinedly:

Other cat: Oh~ what’s this?

Our cat: HISS!! RAWR! Second cat: Oh, me bad. * backs away*

UPDATE: Look! I also took a video of Daeho eating~! It's a short video (only 18 seconds!), but it's so cute~~! You even see a cutie tail of another kitty~

OTHER CAT CAFÉ PATRONS:
Later on in the afternoon the cat café got really busy! Look at all these people! You can see couples, friends, and many cats scattered around! ^^

At one point, a bunch of girls (all strangers) sat in a circle, and surrounded the cats with nonstop caressing! Heh heh~

OTHER CAT HAPPENINGS:
Here are some of the other cats in the café!

This was the smallest cat in the café. A skinny little thing who had just woken up from a nap with the Siamese cat. So cute~!

I can’t say I thought this cat was cute...

...but it did have enchanting crystal blue eyes!

Sometimes the cats hang out on the counter:

(In the back you can see the owner(?) of the café! He’s a tall, lanky guy.
Seems funny! I also think he must really love cats~ :3 )

One cat went into hiding, except for its tail, teehee~

Blissfully sleeping in a cardboard box:

This cat creeped up on our chair, eyes locked on our drink!

I thought it was a bit peculiar since our coffee obviously wasn't tuna. But we also saw another cat bite a straw (still in a cup) on the table across from us...Do cats know how to drink from straws?!

They also have lint brushes for you to use on your way out. Daeho was completely indifferent to our teasing >.<

Plump, round butts~~ ლ(́◉◞౪◟◉‵ლ)

After several hours in the café, it was finally time to go home. Good bye my dear Daeho! Be good~!

That concludes my first--but definitely not last--trip to a cat cafe! I thoroughly enjoyed it! The drinks were good, and atmosphere was comfortable for both relaxing and for studying. It makes me really want a cat of my own now!

Do you like cats? Or are you a dog person? Would you go to a cat cafe?
