Etude House Giveaway [CLOSED]

One of the goals I would like to achieve with my blog is to introduce everyone—including myself—to many different Korean cosmetic/skincare brands. Besides reviews, another way I can do this is through giveaways!

In other words, I would *like* to be able to host giveaways for each of the popular brands in Korea. This will have to be a gradual thing, but I hope to eventually make this happen throughout 2013!

Etude House Dear My Blooming Lips-talk Review

While the box might look like an ugly light tan color in the pictures, rest assured! It’s actually a pale pink in real life—just so pale that it borders light tan. Here's the tube:

The color of the tube is mix between pink and lavender. Overall, it’s quite dull and greyish. Now once you open it, you'll see that the area where it closes has ridges:

And with that comes a tight lock! The color in the picture above is mostly true to life for indoor lighting, give or take a few.

I applied a lip balm underneath. As usual, use these swatches as a reference for what comes next!

If on your screen it looks like there’s some lavender to it, I’d say that’s misleading. (It might help to scroll down some more so that the picture is at the top of the screen.) It tends to photograph that way, but it’s very much a hot pink in real life. The first layer is already very pigmented, but the second layer really goes the extra mile.

The stick quite soft. It’s moisturizing at first, but can still feel drying without a lip balm. It doesn’t settle into cracks much, but it definitely clings to flakes! Make sure to exfoliate, because it turns loose flakes into bright pink chunks! D:

Neither matte nor glossy. There’s that bit of shine and stickiness that comes from the “moisture” of the lipstick, but that fades pretty quickly. Read on.

Within a half hour, most of that “glisten” fades—or rather, the just moisture gets absorbed—and the finish becomes matte, for the most part. It fades even faster without a balm underneath. And within an hour, the color becomes much less bright. Instead of a hot pink, it’s more like a vivid rose. It also leaves a slight rosy stain.

To be honest, I actually *did* want a pink with purple undertones! But alas, my monitor fooled me! I'm not really a hot pink girl, and the formulation is only so-so in my opinion. It’s decent, but nothing spectacular. PLUS the fact that I’m not a huuuge fan of Etude House in general…I have to say it’s a miss for me. >.< BUT! If you're a fan of Etude, I think you may like it! There are many other shades you can choose from, and the packaging is indeed very cute!

Etude House Mini JamJam Hand Lotion

I ran out of my Snail hand lotion a few weeks ago and desperately needed some moisture on my hands...So I decided to give this cutie a little try! This review was generously sponsored by Koreadepart, the humongous Korean Cosmetic shopping mall I talked about previously!

The material of the tube is a matte sort of plastic (rather than shiny and slippery).

If you check the dimensions, is indeed quite mini! You can see in the picture on the right that it’s not overly plump either. ►

It’s got a very sweet (artificial) strawberry flavor, reminiscent of either candy or body lotions for young girls! It’s kind of noticeable when it's on my hands, but that's hit or miss for me.

Texturally, I’d call it a medium-to-lightweight lotion: It spreads thinly and feels lighweight, but it’s not quite as thin, "liquidy", or even runny as some lotions are. It also moisturizes more like a medium-weight.

First off, I’ve had dry, wrinkly hands all my life...so don’t judge! I don’t want to show you these pictures just as much as you won’t want to see them, you know! But for the purpose of education...brace yourselves!

(*Just to clarify, I mean liquid-like *shine*, not texture!
I still wouldn't describe the lotion as actually liquidy.)

So just to reiterate: There is a slight stickiness at first, but continual rubbing makes it go away. Overall, it absorbs within a minute of vigorous—and I do mean vigorous—rubbing, leaving me with smooth and soft(er) skin.

There is a very thin veneer of residue at first, but it's so slight that I can’t tell unless I rub my fingers very hard. It's not greasy either, and most of it fades within a few minutes anyway. Of course, it's different if I apply too much!

If I put just enough on, I find that it lasts for about 2-2.5 hours before I notice my dryness reappearing. By then the softness has faded, but I still feel enough moisture that I can tolerate it for another couple hours without reapplying.

I've also noticed that on days that I diligently reapply, it lasts longer each time. After my third application it lasts for almost an entire day! (Most of the moisture does, but not softness.)

Usually I’m hesitant to buy cute hand creams because I’m afraid they won’t work well, but I was pleasantly surprised with this one! My only problem is that there’s not much in there, mainly because it wasn’t really filled it up all the way. It's not SUPER emollient, but I think it’s perfect as a portable lotion to take around: It’s small, nongreasy, has a lightweight texture, and yet still provides a very reasonable amount of moisture, especially with successive applications. Plus, no finger-dipping~!

Etude House VIP Girl Dear Darling Lips Miss Tangerine

Now that it's officially summertime, it's time for me to pull my orange lipstick out of hibernation! Now I'm sure you've seen reviews for this lipstick already, so just let's get to it!

Shade: OR207 C’mon Miss T* (aka Miss Tangerine)

*Translated shade name. Miss Tangerine is just the name of the collection.

The tube is thick-ish plastic and a pale orange-cream color, with a hint of pink. The cap is semitransparent and sliiightly more orangey than the base.

The cap and base click very tightly together! Notice how the cap is pointy, and the small bump on the base that locks it together:

I wouldn’t say it smells like a real tangerine (too sweet and not tangy enough). It's more like an orange creamsicle/creme-saver to me! It’s really only noticeable right after I open the tube.

I decided to show the swatches first this time, but it's meant as a supplement for the details that follow. Note that in these swatches I did nothing but swipe straight from the tube. No blotting, no dabbing!

First off, it's very opaque. Color-wise, it is a veeery vibrant/bright orange in real life. I find that swiping two layers borders neon orange, especially in bright white lighting. Dim lighting subdues it to anywhere between bittersweet red and pumpkin-orange. Of course, this depends on how much you apply; dabbing and using a brush give a much softer orange.

Now, some of the neon-ness does fade shortly after I apply, and the color itself darkens slightly over time as well, but the overall vividness remains intact.

The stick is soft enough that it applies quite easily and dry skin cuts into the stick. However, moisturizing ability varies: If I apply a thick layer, it feels quite moisturizing for awhile. Once this moisture dries up (hr or so?), the lipstick starts to feel a bit drying. If I use a brush to apply a very thin layer, it feels drying from the get-go. (Admittedly, this is without a balm.)

In my 1st swatch, even though I had exfoliated and moisturized beforehand, it still clung onto every little unevenness I had, resulting in bright-orange clumps and lines. It looked *terrible* in real life! Dry, tight lips (2nd and 3rd swatches) don’t seem to be a problem though, so long as they’re smooth~

My camera exaggerates light reflection, so it's actually very matte in real life. It sometimes appears slightly shiny right after application, but again, this shine-bearing-moisture dries up and I end up matte anyway.

To be honest, I was thinking of trashing this review, mainly because I wasn't excited to share this lipstick with you. :( It's just sooo neony in real life, and the clinging/settling makes it worse! I mean, I do think it could be a cute and fun orange if—-and only if—-you apply a subtle amount, either by a brush or by dabbing. But that's waaay too much effort for me, especially since a thin layer of this formula ends up feeling drying. I just want to swipe and go, you know?! But at least it looks nice in photos~!

Etude House Silk Scarf Treatment Review

By now, my hair has endured 5 rounds of bleaching and dyeing, and alas, with no special treatment in between! I had tried a sample of this product before and liked it, so I went for the full size. Let's just say now I know why some consumers think the quality of samples is better...

Name: Silk Scarf Hair Treatment [실크스카프 헤어 트리트먼트]
Size: 200mL, 9cm high

Paraphrased translation: Containing several different seed oils (sunflower, macadamia nut, camellia), this hair treatment repairs dry and brittle hair into strong, silky soft hair—as if you had wrapped a silk scarf around your hair! Leave it in for 5 minutes and use once or twice a week.

It’s veeery thin and runny, even more so than Suave conditioners! You don't even need to squeeze, it drips out on its own! In short, it's *very* easy to spill, and it doesn’t help that the opening is a bit wide (1cm). ►

The texture is so light that once applied, it feels as though I've applied nothing at all! That's why I end up using a lot each time.

It's only *slightly* moisturizing for me, no more than what a very average conditioner would do. (I used a lot too!) Basically, it makes my tangled straw feel like smooth straw, woohoo! The effect fades almost completely within a day or two. Regular Pantene does way more for me.

I regret buying this. Come to think of it, 7 bucks for a wee little tube is already bad enough, let alone a very unimpressive conditioner. With all their advertisement about the fancy oil ingredients, it’s funny to note that they’re listed last on the list--preceded even by perfume! Above all, I was disappointed/shocked because the sample was way better (creamy, moisturizing, fragrant, the whole shebang!). Maybe mine was a dud?
